If your a serious fitness pro, buy it
Bedtime reading this book is not, but if you are in the fitness industry, or intersted in sports/exercise it is a must. This book is not a typical dreary textbook, it is full of colour coded areas of text, well presented graphs and tables, regular text summaries and even revision questions. There are plenty of photographs nearly all are colour and many interesting anecdotes. Very informative and excellent value for money. The only downside which we are always going to meet in fitness related publications is the bias towards the USA, some of the terms and descriptions need to be re read at times to clarify the meaning. Small price to pay for a top class reference book.
Excellent Source
This book is a must for anyone interested in exercise physiology and is ideal for those on a sports science/physical education degree or similar. This book covers many key topics including muscular function, cardiovascular control, neurological control, metabolism & energy, training, nutrition, health & fitness and many more.
All texts are clear, precise, well structured and reasonably detailed with practical and theoretical implications also. There are many colour photos, labelled diagrams, tables and graphs all of which are clear and easy to follow and compliment the text very well. There are study questions at the end of each chapter with frequent overviews and summaries throughout.
Also this book isn't as complex as some exercise physiology books out there, but still manages to provide excellent information in good detail.
Overall I would say this book is a very informative resource, is clear and relatively easy to comprehend, and is a reference that I frequently use.
Very good book
A lot of academic books are difficult to read. This isn't, it's well laid out, the language is easy to read and it has handy reviews at the end of each chapter. Great introduction to the subject
