Wonderfully original treatment5
Having read most of the recommended books on Qabalah (Dion Fortune, Israel Regardie, etc.) I was expecting 'more of the same' with this one, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised to find such a completely original and refreshing angle taken; this book by Kala Trobe is truly inspired and really brings out the full vibrancy of Qabalah. Rather than the usual treatment of outlining reams of correspondences for each Sephirah and cryptic phrases for their description, whose interpretation is way beyond most beginners on the path, Trobe concentrates on what it's like to 'experience' each one in turn. The associated pathworkings which enable this approach are very well crafted and easily worked with a little perseverance. The book also contains short, clearly written accounts of the remaining paths between the Sephirah as well as a story which really reinforces what is covered in the earlier parts of the book. I don't think the book will necessarily suit purists who may wish to make life difficult for the newcomer, but I think it will do a lot to attract more people to this very ancient and powerful path, who might otherwise pass it by without a second look, and in my opinion that can only be a good thing.

Essential reading!5
I bought this book because I was so impressed by Kala Trobe’s ‘Invoke the Gods’. I have read many books on Qabalah and was unsure as to whether I’d find anything new here - but I was to be pleasantly surprised. What I found was not just the expected basics, but an imaginative grasp of Qabalah comparable to the work of David Rosenberg. Kala Trobe comes at the subject from an esotericist’s standpoint while Rosenberg’s lore is Jewish through and through, yet both are able to breathe fresh creative life into an arcane system. I refer particularly to the ‘Qabalistic Tale’ at the end of the book, and the visual sections, some of which are stunning. The chapter on Yesod is a notable work of literature as well as genuinely workable.

I did wonder at the scant attention given to the Paths, but the author comments that this book is predominantly concerned with the Sefiroth. Perhaps a follow-up concentrating on the Paths is in order?

My understanding of the subject was deepened by ‘Magic of Qabalah’, greatly aided by the fact that it was so pleasurable to read. If Ms Trobe can write like this now, so young, then we have much to look forward to!

Let us hope that she continues to ‘climb the Tree of Life’ with the same insight, talent and passion evident in this book :)

A wonderful and comprehensive intro to Kaballah5
Kaballah is not a subject which appeals to everybody, and the reason for this is often because of the old fashioned and stilted use of language empoyed by authors on the subject. Magic of Qabalah has managed to break this trend. The language is clear, the information accessible and the visualisations and desciptions of the journey up the Tree are beautiful, clear and inspiring. I loved this book. It is by far the best I've read on Kaballah other than Dion Fortune's classic, and Kala Trobe's work is easier to follow without losing the profundity of the subject. Highly recommended.
