The best from Elen...
I have read all of Elen Hake's books and this I feel is her best work yet, describing all of the moon's phases in intricate detail, this book follows on from her previous 2 books In The Circle and The sacred Round and is a must if you own them, even if you haven't this is a stand alone in the series and includes lots of information on goddesses, moon rites, rituals also including a self-initiation ritual.
This is a book I will treasure and if you have any interest in the moon then this is a book you must own. I can't wait for her new book to come out...
a magickal perspective on the moon
A thorough and comprehensive approach to the role that the moon plays in modern paganism and occult practise. In this book, Elen Hawke goes way beyond the usual brief descriptions of waxing, full and waning to include unusual events such as eclipses as well as the less commonly worked quarter phases. The author who is also an experienced astrologer, includes chapters on the moon through the signs of the zodiac and how this may be used magickally, as well as defining personality traits from the position of the moon in your natal chart according to the Indian lunar zodiac. There is even a chapter on the celtic tree calendar which relates to the moon's cycle.
If you are drawn to the beauty, gentle energy and symbolism of the moon and would like to learn more, then this book is a must buy.
Lunar Inspired!
In Praise to the Moon, Elen Hawke takes the reader on a sacred journey with the Moon. There is a wealth of material in this book the stimulates the readers desire to find their own ways of working with the lunar energies. Each phase of the Moon is fully described (including the lesser worked with quarter phases) and there are plenty of spells, exercises and meditations included. There is information on the Celtic tree calendar, Indian Vedic astrology, and the Moon through the western astrological signs plus general information on circle casting and other basic magical practice. Much has been devoted to Goddesses and Gods of each Moon phase, attributes and suggested magical work and a fascinating section on working with eclipses.
I found this a wonderful book to read. Her style is practical, yet rich, fluid and lyrical with many of her own observations and experiences included. The visualisations are beautiful. I like the way she suggests rather than dictates and concentrates on encouraging the reader to pursue their own understanding. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in two days. However I know I shall keep dipping back into it for reference and inspiration. A must for every witches bookshelf.
