Average customer review:Product Description
Roughly, one in ten Americans have taken prozac, Zoloft, Paxil or a similar antidepressant. Yet, very few of the patients who take these drugs are aware of the dangers, or that safer alternatives exist. This text documents the side-effects associated with these and other serotonin-boosting medications. Side-effects include neurological disorders, such as facial and body tics; sexual dysfunction in up to 60 percent of users; debilitating withdrawal symptoms, including visual hallucinations, electric-shock like sensations in the brain, and dizziness, nausea and anxiety; and a decrease of antidepressant effectiveness. Also in this book, Dr Glenmullen indicates through his research that there is a link between these drugs and suicide and violence. This is a guide to the safe treatment of depression and other psychiatric problems.

Customer Reviews
excellent detailed account of how anti deppressants can harm
Dr. Glenmullen not only explains the short term effects of prozac and other anti-depressants, but also the long term effects.
he discusses side effects from long term use, addiction and withdrawl, and healthy alternatives to these drugs.
his book is easy to understand and he uses case studies to illustrate his ideas. these case studies make the book enjoyable and ensure that it never becomes a dry medical journal.
it is refreshing that he gives us alternatives to these drugs that are easy to follow and practical. he explains depression and the fact that most people who take anti-depressants don't actually need these drugs.
most frightening are the sections on how anti-depressants can lead to violence and long term brain damage.
his writing style is clear and his book is enjoyable.
i would recommend it to anyone taking, prescribing, or contemplating taking anti- depressants.
it is about time there was a book like this on the market!!
bravo!
