The widely acclaimed author of DICK FOR A DAY showcases her razor-sharp knack for tart and provocative commentary in this unique compendium of stories, memories and reportage on the age-old practise of breast-feeding. While countless breastfeeding guides crowd bookshelves, not one of them speaks to women with anything approaching bestselling author Fiona Giles' level of intimacy and vitality. In FRESH MILK, through a provocative collection of stories, memories and personal accounts Giles uncovers the myths and truths of the lactating breast. From young mothers grappling with the bewildering trappings of maternity wear to the woman who finds herself surprisingly aroused by new sensations, and the modern dad who learns the ins and outs of breastfeeding, the portraits in Giles' eye-opening book offer a funny, wise and comforting resource for women - and even their friends and partners who have had, or expect, intimate experiences with the pleasures and pain of lactation. By turns poignant and informative, sexy and witty, empathic and empowering, FRESH MILK delivers everything we wanted to know about breastfeeding that our mothers never told us.

Customer Reviews
Fantastic, read it!
This book is a complete eye opener to those of us who know next to nothing about lactating breasts (and probably to those who do).
Through anecdotes, articles and email questionnaires Fiona Giles leads us through the magical world of women, their breasts and mothers' milk. Stories by women who have experienced everything that can go wrong with breast feeding are somehow reassuring rather than frightening.
I have learnt so much: I had no idea that you can breastfeed even if you've never been pregnant, or that lactation is controlled by completely different hormones to menopause. Nor did I realise that breastfeeding is anything other than a natural, relatively simple process; I didn't know that it took time to learn, can be enormously painful or that the emotional, sensual and psychological pleasures of breastfeeding can be so rewarding.
You are almost certainly more knowledgeable than I am, nonetheless, I seriously recommend that you read this book!
Moving, enlightening, uplifting
This book is fantastic, exploring the subject of breastfeeding from more different angles than I could have thought possible. It isn't always comfortable reading, but very thought-provoking, and highly recommended.
Oh My God (or Gosh for the more prudent)
Speaking of prude, if you are one, definitely don't buy this book!
I read this like I read Hello! Magazine .... oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, I can't believe that!
I could not put this book down.
Having breastfed both my babies, I thought I knew a lot about breastfeeding. Well, let me tell you there's a secret underground, twisted, bizarre and kinky side to things I have never once dreamed of, but my eyes are now open. Perhaps I would have preferred they remain firmly shut, but wow! I must surely know it all now!
The breastfeeding prenatal class sure didn't mention any of this in the handouts!
