Product Description

Vourniass Lycern -- a conosq of the three-sex Seriattic race -- holds the key to peace between Earth and Seriatt, and thus the continuation of the lucrative illegal arms trade conducted by General William Myson. When Lycern decamps to the Affinity Group complex on Veshc, Myson orders experienced Military Intelligence Officer Alexander Delgado to fetch her. While once respected, the changes that followed Myson's rise to power saw Delgado's position reduced in all but name, his independent character and methodologies unwelcome. But Delgado, sees the mission not as a chance to reinstate his name to the position of respect it once held, but an opportunity to engender a much greater level of change. When he comes into contact with Lycern, however, Delgado faces his greatest ever challenge, the consequences of which have the ability to change his life -- and potentially the future of Earth -- forever. In the first of the Structure novels, Martin Sketchley has created a vivid widescreen setting in which the boundaries between good and evil, male and female, human and non-human are often indistinguishable despite the wishes and perceptions of the startling characters he has created. Sexuality, gender roles, and the fundamental drives of every human being are explored within a gripping dynamic storyline that highlights the contrast between what humans perceive themselves to be, and what they really are.

Customer Reviews

Entertaining, enjoyable and just a bit raunchy4
I thoroughly enjoyed this one - a tempting mix of Sci Fi, adventure and love story.

Main character Delgado is quite a deep chappy with a lovely sense of humour, and he's having to re-think his approach to life in The Affinity Trap. After becoming addicted Lycern's to alien pheremones, he finds he doesn't want to hand her over to Earth's military, which is a bit awkward since they sent him to rescue her in the first place. Trouble is, if she doesn't go to Earth and marry Commander Supreme Myson, war will break out between Lycern's planet and Earth, and millions will die.

Sketchley has a nice flowing style and a good eye for description. There's stealth attacks and shoot 'em outs, plot twists and sex scenes, all packed between the covers of Affinity Trap. Which means there's something for everyone. I'm certainly glad I took the chance on this new author.

The Affinity Trap4
I was not a great si-fi reader until I picked this up then could not put it down! I found it original in content with a good story line. Martin Sketchley has me wanting to come back for more. Bring on the next book.

Disappointing2
After reading the mostly favourable reviews, I found the book disappointing. To be fair, there are some good and interesting ideas, but the loose plot ends, cardboard characters and occasional sheer silliness put me off. The author has promise, but he plainly needs a good editor.
