Third Degree - Greg Iles - An Explosive Must Read
The plot features a highly respected doctor, Warren Shields, living with his attractive wife, 2 children and a dog in an affluent area. In the space of a few hours in one day all that he believes in disintegrates around him. As he loses control, the police move in and a seige situation occurs.
Greg Iles is a master at taking what a seems a straight forward concept and creating a thriller through spins, twists and surprises throughout the whole novel. This was so fast paced and compelling I consciously had to slow down my reading pace! Yet at no time is the action or the characters unbelievable.
This is an exciting read but it also contains deep characters that you can dislike, like, sympathise with, be angry with etc at the same time. Iles seems to have a sharp awareness of human nature and personality that he transfers into his characters to make them well drawn and realistic.
Greg Iles' work is a must read.
Some peeps are being a bit harsh ....
Though it is true to say that this does not hold the same gripping content as turning angel or dead sleep i did really enjoy it- the characters are plausible and likeable and the story rides like a train crash to its end. Yes there has been better but i have also read alot worse... give it a go... its matter of personal taste i suppose.
Don't buy this book
This book is awful. I agree with another reviewer who says it's like it was written by someone other than Greg Isle. Even the publisher's description is wrong, the main characters are called Shields in the text but the blub calls them Fields. If you must read it because you have read Greg Isles other books and liked them then get it from the library, don't waste your money. It's so disappointing when this happens with an author you have grown to like and followed since his first book.
