Product Description

A charismatic self-help guru promises she has the key to a perfect world. But it's midnight in the Garden of Eden, and the original evil is after Angel's soul...Lost Angeles is a city divided between the haves and the have-nots, and those that have it seem to have it all: tanned good looks, fit physiques, celebrity, flashy cars, high-tech toys, and then some. It's little wonder that the have-nots tend to get tired of standing on the sidelines...Enter Lily Pierce, a motivational speaker whose New Life Foundation message is sweeping the country. Her mantra is simple: "Erase doubt. Erase fear. Become pure of purpose. Perfect in execution. Attain your dreams." But Lily is guarding a secret of truly mythic proportions. Even Wolfram and Hart -- the sinister law firm whose machinations lie behind much of Los Angeles' evil -- want to stop the rising insanity: and incredibly, they are looking to Angel for help. Can he work with the very people who have tried to hard to destroy him? And is Lily's promise of a perfect world for all who embrace her vision too tempting for Angel to fight against?

Oh, the travesty as my soul gets ripped from my body....2
What is wrong with this book is that at no point throughout it's 336 page length does it feel like an Angel episode in written format.

The characters do not feel or say things that the characters from the show, expertly portrayed by the cast, actually come across as. In fact, the only person who bears a passing resemblance to their screen character is Cordelia. Angel is terrible, and says things that you just can't imagine him saying.

What little narrative structure that actually takes place in the book amount to just a series of fights between Angel and his gang trying to stop Lilith, a half human, half demon woman who has been around since the garden of Eden. She's trying to capture 1000 souls to power this necklace that will destroy the world.

The plot is halfway their to being what a plot on the show would be like, and the last 40 pages are actually pretty good, with some few nifty turns in the story. But the previous couple a hundred pages you read amount to little more than confrontations between the two opposing sides. Angel has more complexstorlines than that, along with some decent fights, but this book is all about the fights, with a semi-decent plot tagged on to them. The fights aren't even that imaginative, and usually result in just fisticuffs. After the first three stand offs, you'll be getting a little bored.

The portrayal of Wolfram and Hart is also, I believe, wrong for the company that comes across in the show. They're meant to be evil, not compassionate or friendly. If you read this book in the timeline it's meant to be in (halfway through season 2) it actually makes the rest of the season not make sense, in terms of Wolfram and Hart, because in the show they're trying to kill Angel, so why would they halfway through that, help him???

I found this book disappointing. The ending made up for it a little, giving this book two stars, but it is unimaginative, run of the mill, uninspiring and most importantly, is a dark stain on the fang-tastic Angel universe.

fabulous!5
i loved this book- it had all the right ingredients for an angel story and i didn't want to put it down! i loved to read the depth of the struggle angel has to face and how those around react to his changing attitude. great read!
