Product Description

Widow Mildred Finster is a life-long fan of mystery and suspense. When she decides, at the tender age of 71, that she'd like to become a private detective herself, she knows there's more to sleuthing than is revealed in her favourite books. She has found a card for Angel Investigations and thinks the name sounds very sweet. After all, she loves angels and has a large collection of figurines. What could be more perfect? The staff of Angel investigations are hip-deep in their own personal problems, so when Mildred offers her services, they don't have much time for her. And when a truckload of antiquities from a local Mission is stolen and ransacked, they don't get too worked up over what is obviously a simple theft. But nothing in LA is that simple, and the arrival of some ruthless killers from overseas finally gets the gang's attention. Now they are followed at every turn by a well-meaning old lady, fighting off attacks from poltergeists, and trying to set their personal differences aside to defeat a supernatural foe before a centuries-old mystery reaches its final chapter.

Mrs Marple verses Angel?4
The setting of this book is in the early half of season four. Wesley has set up on his own after kidnapping Angel's son Connor in season three, and the baby is now a full-grown teenager thanks to a hell-dimension's faster time rate. So with not only Wesley's storyline and how he is slowly helping his former friends, we have Angel's as he tries to solve the brutal murder spree that has been occuring.

Added to the mix is an elderly woman with the aspiration to join a detective agency after reading all about them in books and the Murder she wrote TV show. Choosing Angel Investigations because of her fondness for angels she follows the team around.

Not only does Angel have to contend with a being that can shred a truck by hand, and powerful ancient magics, but he has to race against the investigative skills of the elderly woman before she gets hurt by her ignorance of the supernatural.

Its a great read and it could easily have been an episode on the television series. Its also interesting to see how both Wesley and Angel are depicted as Solitary men and how they cope with that isolation. The characters are accurate and the part where Gunn outthinks Fred is a nice change. A definite recommendation.
