Synopsis
From the very beginning, Buffy's snappy, sparkling dialogue and incisive insight into the human condition has been acclaimed by critics and fans alike. 'Writing as good as that for Hill Street Blues, The Simpsons or...Alan Bleasdale at his best' said the Guardian as far back as season one. 'The only show outside Larry Sanders where you rewind to confirm that the wit was that dark' said the style gurus on Uncut four seasons later. 'Wittier than The West Wing' affirmed Time magazine. On the internet, fan sites abound with choice quotes painstakingly culled from favourite episodes, and no episode review is complete without a 'best dialogue' postcript. THE QUOTABLE SLAYER collects of hundreds of quotes from all seven seasons of the show, categorised by character and by subject and illustrated in both black and white and colour. Whether pithy or moving, funny or profound: the complete range of this remarkable drama is here for fans to refer to again and again.

A quote a day...4
I thought this book was excellent. The book is hardback which makes it look fantastic as a gift. It's basically as it advertises - quotes from all seven seasons on Buffy. The quotes are divided into characters and also themes such as 'love', 'food' and 'money'. There is also a 4 page full colour insert which was a cool addition. My only complaint is the price, I thought it was a little expensive for what the book actually is. Basically if you love Buffy and like to randomly remind yourself of some of the cool lines from the show, buy this book!

One tiny little flaw...4
Whilst I'd echo the positive sentiments expressed in prior reviews, I feel compelled to mention the tiny flaw that irritates me to the point of distraction:

It appears that, in a lot of cases, the quotes have been culled from the original scripts of the episodes. This means that, occasionally, the actual line spoken differs from what is printed, whilst some dialogue that was edited from the show remains in the book.

Examples are the quote of Willow's conversation with Oz in "New Moon Rising" and Buffy's admission to Tara at the close of "Dead Things." Both segments in the book have lines that never actually made the final episode.

This can be misleading if you're using the volume to jog your memory about "who said what."

That said, "The Quotable Slayer" is still a fun little catalogue of comments. It provides a wonderful cross-section of the wit and insight that we've come to expect from the program. Even if all the quotes from "The Prom" are listed as being from the preceding episode, "Choices." ;)

Now we just need an Angel equivalent...

Quote me happy.5
Loved this little book and couldn't put it down once I started to read it. The quotes bring back some great memories of the show and at times had me chuckling away to myself. I like the hard back format and all the "Buffy speak". The blank pages at the back are a nice idea for somewhere to write your own favourite quotes that may have been missed.

It's nicely sectioned into categories but would have been easier to use with an index/contents and page numbering to help you. It isn't just this book that is sadly lacking in this area but something it has in common with all the Buffy and Angel reference books!!! Something I find infuriating when using the books for research. That apart, it is a very nice read. With quotes from all the characters to entertain you.
