Editorial Reviews

Photogrammetric Record, 2002
There is much that us thought-provoking in this book.

From the Back Cover
The ideas and techniques of virtual reality are now being made available for the creation of artificial geographies. Such virtual geographies are currently being constructed and used at a number of sites, and include virtual cities, landscape visualisation, visualising past and future geographies, visualizing abstract concepts, and virtual field courses.

This book covers through the window VR systems, fully immersive VR systems and hybrids of the two types. It examines the Virtual Reality Modeling Language approach, and explores its deficiencies when applied to real, geographic environments. Both geographers and computer scientists should find this a very useful work, and the accompanying CD-ROM contains a rich selection of images and pieces of VR software.
