A useful addition to the study of A/AS level human geography
The main advantage of this book is the use of a wide variety of case studies. It offers insight into urban structure and dynamics that are not covered in depth in most general A/AS level tests.
This is not to say that the book is not without faults. The actual layout is poor and confusing. For example there is no index, an important tool in any reference text. The style of writing is aimed at an advanced student, i.e. a student that will suceed in getting higher grades at the new A2 levels. This somewhat reduces the appeal of the book as much of the subject matter is taught in the AS year and is meant to be a link between GCSE and A-Level.
It covers topics such as 'Edge cities' in scant detail and the lack of both photographic evidence and diagramatic explanation is a weakness. Taking all this into account, the book's case studies are widespread enough to be interesting, large enough to be of use for assignments/exams, and well written.
Overall a book that, though useful, could be so much better with a few little alterations.
