If you are doing AS Chemistry you must get this!5
This is an excellent reference book for everything that the new AQA Chemistry syllabus includes.
I was struggling in the jump between GCSE and A Level before I got this book - and then I improved all my test results from Cs and Ds to As after using this book (touch wood) but of course it came with alot of work.
Though this book's value cannot be underestimated and gives another view and way of explaining the hardest aspects of the course!
It also supplies loads of practice questions and past paper questions which are the key to getting good grades.
Though there are the occassional typos, after being checked with your Teacher you feel you understand more than the Book!
I real must have for anyone taking AS AQA Chemistry!
Splendid!

A rubbishy book2
I had to buy this book for my AQA Chemistry AS course, and I really don't like it. For those taking AQA Chemistry, buy a revision guide as well.

Firstly, although it has many practise exam question double spreads throughout the book, it does not have the answers to the exam papers, and although the answer is usually somewhere in the chapter, some of the harder questions can really lag on your mind if you cannot solve them. You have to ask your teacher or someone for help which can be really annoying, particularly if you have an exam the next morning (which I do).

Secondly the book is really wordy, and although it does have some pictures, it is harder to follow with long chunks of writing.

Thirdly, many of the topics are not very well explained, and I have a lot of difficulty with "amount of substance" due to inadequate explanations of answers.

If you take AQA Chemistry you need this book. However my advice is to get another one (I am buying the OCR one tomorrow) or get a good revision guide. For £20 it is too thin to really qualify as a textbook, but that's what we have to buy.

For all A Level students, I wish you luck with this rubbishy book.
