With typically cheerful panache, Krentz (a.k.a. Amanda Quick) shamelessly pilfers from her previous offerings (Trust Me, 1995, etc.) for this newest romance. Scientific consultant Harry Stratton Trevelyan, Ph.D., is another of the author's logical, methodical, amber-eyed heroes. Dispassionately, or so he believes, Harry decides to have an affair with Molly Abberwick. He envisions logical, mutually satisfying companionship and sex (he likes Molly's ripe curves), so he invites her to his streamlined Seattle high-rise to discuss the matter calmly over tea. Molly - in the manner of Krentz's spirited, capable, green-eyed heroines - goes ballistic, doesn't believe in logical passion, and certainly doesn't feel logical about the granitely masculine Harry, a descendant of carnival stuntmen and fortunetellers, a man who can write learned textbooks and catch knives with his sensuous bare hands. Molly, owner of the Abberwick Tea and Spice Co., lives closer to Earth in a crazy Victorian mansion filled with the strange inventions of her late father: robots that dust and polish; an Automated Wine Cellar; a Food Storage and Preparation Machine that prepares complete meals when its buttons are pushed. Molly has hired Harry to be consultant to the Abberwick Foundation, started by her father to bankroll struggling inventors. Like other Krentz protagonists, the two begin at odds, but - naturally - have a lot in common: Both are orphans (like an earlier Quick hero, Harry was too late to save his murdered parents but did kill their assailants); both are self-made; and both are their families' most reliable breadwinners. As Molly's yin and Harry's yang go head to head, someone begins to threaten her life. Harry, also gifted with clairvoyance, rescues Molly; she, in turn, teaches Harry to accept his illogical gift, reconciles his bickering family, and saves him from the abyss of a lonely life. Absolutely, Positively one of JAK's Best!!
I LOVE these characters! This is JAK at her best. She just does not get any better. Molly Abberwick owns a tea and spice shop, enjoying her life in Seattle until her father dies and leaves her in charge of his Foundation to help budding inventors. She is now facing a problem. The problem is Dr. Harry Stratton Trevelyn, who is the 'debunker' of fake inventions. He vets the applicants before Molly passes out the money grants. Molly gets very enthusiastic about all sorts of inventions, only to have Harry shoot them down time after time. So far, he has not approved one single invention.

Harry has his own problems. He is caught between the two sides of his family - the very rich socialite Stratton side and his carnival side Trevelyns. Harry is very rich, so the carnival family is always asking him for this and that, with both sides keeping a constant tug of war on Harry. This emotional battlefield has caused Harry to be very self contained, maybe too controlled. The one place his control is let loose is in the bedroom. Also around to cause him headaches is his ex-fiancé, a psychiatrist who thinks Harry might be slightly insane and is trying to warn Molly from to not get involved with him. The final mix to Harry's problem is his is psychic and does not want to admit it. Having been raised in a carnival part-time, he has seen this used as a game, so he does not like to let people know about it.

As Molly slowly gets involved with Harry and the whole cast of his family, someone starts to play dangerous pranks on her, and it is quickly evident someone wants her dead.

The characters are so warm, so loving and with that JAK razzle-dazzle that she has polished to a beautiful diamond finished.

Lets hope she soon gets back to this level of writing.

Absolutely, Positively perfect romantic reading
If you've read any Krentz before, then all you need to know is that this is the author at her usual standard - brilliant.
For those less familiar with her, then passionate romance spiced with intrigue and a little danger, at a breathless pace, will keep you turning pages when you really should be doing something else..
Do not read this book if you want sterotyped characters, or a spineless heroine, because this is not an old-fashioned damsel-in-distress novel.
Harry and Molly are individuals, sometimes a little eccentric, but they both realise one thing - when you are absolutely positive you have found your perfect partner, love is about saving each other for yourselves.
