Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
If you're heading for the Antipodes this year--whether for the Olympics in Sydney, the cricket in Melbourne or just the wine in New South Wales--you could do worse than use this book. Whereas some guides tend to cram so much information between their covers they become way too heavy (both literally and metaphorically), this bright, breezy, robustly-bound book manages to be concise as well as authoritative. The format is clear. The book kicks off with a series of brief but intriguing photo-essays on various aspects of life Down Under. Topics include the history of the aborigines, the continent's fauna and flora and, of course, all the sport. Then comes the meat of the book's sandwich: a long section on the tourist honeypots of the Continent--from Ayers Rock to Adelaide, Brisbane to the Barossa Valley--with a particular emphasis on culture and cuisine. Finally, there's a section on "practicalities": how to get a visa, what voltage to use, etc. All the writing and photography is clean, zippy, refreshing and youthful: not unlike Australia herself. --Sean Thomas

Customer Reviews

quite good4
The recommended sights and routes are conveniently presented in terms of what to see and how many days to spend doing it. Looks ideal for short trips to Oz.

For longer visits, you'll almost certainly want more recommendations than this has to offer.

Good Informative Guide5
A really Good Guide Book. Well thought out, excellent maps, features, sugestions on places to visit and folds flat for easy use. Can't wait for others in series.

Does what it says on the tin5
This spiral guide doesn't aspire to be a detailed tome for a long holiday in Oz. It is perfect for a few weeks; having everything (and more) that a traveller might need to scratch the surface of the country. Well designed, easy to stow in your luggage, and ideal for a first-time visitor.
