Product Description

Explore the beauty of the Lake District with this walking guide. It offers over 50 walks around the country, including Kendal's Castle, Yew Tree Tarn and Rydal Water, while providing places to visit along the way, or extensions to make them easier or more challenging. Each walk highlights a particular feature, for instance wildlife, history or the countryside and ranges from two to ten miles in length. A location map indicates the starting point of the walk while topographical features are clearly marked to guide you along the route. Information is also provided on footpath signs, countryside access, walking tips and safety guidelines and an introduction to the county provides a brief background to the area.

Customer Reviews

More than Snowdonia and North Wales5
After walking in North wales for 20 years and using a number of guide books, I believe this book of John Gillham is excellent, particularly for those looking for a guide to easy or moderate walks. The only questionable area is the title as it includes walks further afield to Aberystwyth, Anglesey and east to Llangollen and Montgomery. I have covered about one quarter so far and have yet to be disappointed and most times been pleasantly surprised by routes which have been much quieter than expected; only recently my wife, our flat coat and I walked in the Rhinogs for the day and met only wild goats. The guides are clear, informative and obviously geared to our walking speeds as the times advised are remarkably accurate. Highly recommended.

Having used this book1
Recently I visited Wales for a walking holiday and took this book alang with me, out of the book I did 5 of the walks from easy to moderate and this book was very helpful. Easy to understand directions, places to visit whilst walking, if you are a dog lover this book tells you when and where you can take your dog and let free to roam. The only thing I found irritatting was that on some of the walks no mileage is given between points. but a very good guide book,
