A good pre vacation planning and reference guide.
This was one of two books we took on our trip, the other was A Great Weekend in Venice. Out of the two this one comes second, albeit a close second. The kind of guide we needed was one you could look at in a glance whilst on the move as there is just so much to see in this city.
The city pack has two parts, the guide and a seperate fold out map. Both elements are very good but are difficult to use together on the street. It is impractical to try and find where to go on a large map in the hustle and bustle on the street. The guide itself has a map spread between the inside of the front and back covers but this is not quite detailed enough to use as a sole directional aid.
The guide is well set out with full page descriptions of the top 25 sights. It also has other useful sections covering places to stay, shop eat and be entertained as well as a brief overview of the city and a helpful section entitled How to organise your time.
I would suggect that this is a useful companion to take when going to Venice but it will be best used as pre-vacation reading and as planning and reference in your hotel room.
Used in conjuction with a Great weekend in Venice you will make the most of what ever time you have got in this truely breath taking city.
AA Venice City pack
The book provides a quick way to get yourself ready for a short trip to Venice. It includes sections on planning ahead and getting there, the top 25 sights, where to find hotels and food and some basic Italian language. The map is excellent providing all the detail required to find your way around the many footpaths and canal ways. A metro style map of the public transport boat services is also shown on the map which again I found most useful.
