Editorial Reviews

Review
Neat little summary for anyone who wants to use the growing scientific evidence that shows diet and supplements can enhance immune balance and functioning. Meek is an immunologist and Holford a leading nutritionist, author and founder of the Institute for Optimum Nutrition. Together they explain the workings of the immune system and how it goes wrong due to infections, auto-immune diseases and allergies, and suggest how to boost immunity and protect yourself using diet and supplements as well as herbs, exercise, positive thinking and light. Another great book from the master of nutrition5
This is a must read for anyone wondering why they always feel tired, get so many colds etc. As with most of Patrick Holford's books it is written in simple terms. He takes you through in easy stages from causes to solutions. You don't need to be either medically or scientifically minded to understand the effects certain foods have on the body and the bonuses of certain supplements. I used to sit on the fence regarding supplements but having tried his recommendations I'm now a firm believer and feel great.

Daft Daft Daft1
This book is daft. You can't boost your immune system. Anyone who has even studied basic immunology understands how amazingly complex the immune system is. What does boosting it even mean? Making it more active. The immune response causes inflammation. This is not something you would want more of. Especially if you don't have a major infection. Does 'boosting' your immune system some how make it recognise pathogens that you haven't been infected with yet? No. This is a stupid book aimed at people who don't know science. Steer clear. There is a great episode of a podcast called Quackcast thatis hosted by a Doctor of infection disease and he talks about these daft products that supposedly boost your immune system. He debunks them for what they are. Quackery. A quick tip for anyone. Get a good sleep and eat healthy. These books can't tell you any more.
