Things are finally looking up for George and Ann Richardson. After causing years of worry, their younger daughter Tess, who had always been sickly and small, is starting to blossom into a confident, clever girl. It will be some time before she catches up with her older sister Maddy, but her family know she’ll soon be just as strong. And they’ve just scraped together enough money to take them on their first holiday, to Wales, where the country life will be just what they need. But heartache is waiting for the family when they return to Liverpool, and many a tear will have to fall before they find the true happiness they long for...

Customer Reviews

Another Excellent Read by an Excellent Author5
George and Ann Richardson and their 2 daughters Tess and Maddy, are an average family and have to deal with the ups and downs of everyday life.

This Book has several beneath the surface meanings and shows you should not always judge a book by its cover.

This is true in the case of Nellie Bingham who is a neighbour who nobody really understands, but the neighbours soon find that she is someone they can rely on.

I have read most of Joan Jonker's Books and find that this book is another excellent read from an excellent dedicated author.

Get ready for a good read and a good cry5
This book will have you holding onto your hankies girls. The children in the story you will love, the story is just mind bending and very much a Joan Jonker classic. She never fails to bring a tear to your eye, a smile to your lips and skip and a jump to your heart. I finished the book in three days and was very sad to finish the book and say "Goodbye" to a very good read. If you want a heart warming story then this book is a must.

Brilliant read - a different format but non the less great5
A wonderful read, the characters are warm and you feel at once like they are old friends, as with all of Joans other books...Joan is a wonderful author and I recommend this book to all readers.
