SIMPLY BRILLIANT! UNHOOK THE PHONE ...5
I bought this book because I read Dexter Dias's previous novel, Above the Law. I'm delighted to report that Dias gets even better! Whereas Above the Law, which I really recommend, was about the relationship between a mother and her son, this novel is about two brothers, their love and their rivalries. Davey Kilkenny is an ex-cop who left the police because life became intolerable after he exposed internal corruption. However, he uses his knowledge of crime and criminals to become an attorney. Then when a to-die-for luxury yacht is ablaze and a murdered and mutilated man found upon it, all hell breaks loose in Davey's professional and personal life. Because he is asked to defend the chief suspect, the enigmatic money-launderer, Sebastian Santos, but also because Santos has got his hooks into Davey's brother, the financier, Frankie. Slowly, Santos works his way into all their lives - a chilling, unpredictable and highly creepy baddie. But is Santos actually guilty? I just wanted to add that in Ellen Ross, a hard-nosed detective investigating the case, Dias has drawn a brilliantly tortured female professional, struggling with corruption in and out of the Force, as well as with her feelings for Davey. I read this book in one evening. I think it ranks with Presumed Innocent and Degree of Guilt (Richard North Patterson) at the top of my legal thriller charts. I'm intrigued to see what Dias's next offering will be. In the meantime, a distinct case of "Power of the Author"!

BETTER THAN GRISHAM5
As a loyal Grisham fan, this is the book I've been waiting for: someone to take the legal thriller to the next stage. This story of a young lawyer in trouble is better than The Firm.

POWER OF ATTORNEY is not just the firm, it's THE BUSINESS.

LECTER BEWARE - YOU'D LOSE TO THIS GUY!5
I actually bought the hardback of this amazingly chilling legal thriller, and am delighted that it is now out in paperback because I have recommended it to so many people. Dexter Dias has written a novel of breathtaking visceral excitement with one of the best court confrontations I've ever read, not to mention a villian, the like of which Hannibal Lecter would do well to treat with caution. All in all, a fantastic read - even better than Dias's previous ABOVE THE LAW, which is saying something.
