Starting with a basic overview of elementary control theory this text quickly moves on to a rigorous examination of more advanced and cutting edge date aspects such as robust and intelligent control, including neural networks and genetic algorithms.

With examples from aeronautical, marine and many other types of engineering, Roland Burns draws on his extensive teaching and practical experience presents the subject in an easily understood and applied manner. Control Engineering is a core subject in most technical areas.

Problems in each chapter, numerous illustrations and free Matlab files on the accompanying website are brought together to provide a valuable resource for the engineering student and lecturer alike.

Straight to the point4
Although there is little new to say about control theory when covering the basics, this book has surprised me. It is not that what it says is new, but its approach.

Direct, straight to the point, concentrating on the fundamental aspects of each chapter. I have not read all of it, nor have I done so with full attention. But I have studied some chapters in more detail, and checked that the tone is homogeneous throughout.

For the use I make of control theory, mainly teaching and laboratory scale engineering, it proves wonderful as a reference book, for it is fairly comprehensive and ideal to refresh the concepts that you are not practicing every day. Perhaps for specialized professionals they might only be interested in one or two chapters, which lay down the foundations. But very well laid.

In summary, it gives you what you need to start working, and it does so directly, neatly-woven that you may begin designing a few hours after being a complete foreigner to control.
