Over the past few years the application of mentoring in business has risen steeply and more organizations than ever are seeking to utilize its power. 'Implementing Mentoring Schemes' constitutes the most comprehensive and up-to-date coverage of the design, implementation, evaluation and revitalization of mentoring schemes.
Although it can be used as a practical "how-to" guide on implementing mentoring schemes, it is ultimately a book that promotes best practice, combining academic research and case studies with many years of practical experience to produce expert advice. It enables readers to fully understand mentoring and to create state-of-the-art programs. In addition, it establishes a tenable case for mentoring that will greatly assist readers in promoting programs within their organization.

Includes real-life case studies including British American Tobacco (BAT), British Telecom (BT) and Proctor and Gamble

Editorial Reviews
Review
'...highly structured book, written primarily for those responsible for designing and implementing a mentoring scheme ... gets to the core of why mentoring is a worthwhile activity.'
Claire Marchbank - People Management, March 2002
'The application of mentoring schemes has sharply increased over the past decade, primarily because organisations recognise the benefits they provide to both the individual and organisation. What has been lacking is both the hands-on guidance and the evidence of best practice that this book provides.........deserves a place on all professional HRM and trainers' book shelves

Getting to the essentials at last
I have read a number of books on mentoring but nothing as good as this offering by Nadine Klassen. She gets directly to the meat of the topic of mentoring giving useful comparisons from different schools of thought. She outlines all the essentials of mentoring as well as giving a selection of interesting and relevant case studies from real companies. She touches on most tricky topics too: male-female relations, hierarchical relations and cross-cultural relationships. She provides useful summary tables and checklists for most of the information covered. In addition she addresses how to go about setting up a mentoring scheme in your organisation; again providing lots of supporting checklists, tables and case studies. I cannot recommend this book more highly - it is well written, positive and packed with useful information.
