Review
"An excellent book...good use of learning objectives, questions and potential assignments."
Paul Blakely, Lecturer, University College of Warrington.
From the Author
Accessible, straightforward and comprehensive.
This book was written for business students and for anybody wishing to understand the basics (and more)of businesses and their environments. It enjoys a wide readership amongst first and second year business students in many parts of the world and is ideal for units on first level economics, business organisations, business functions and the business environment.
The content is divided into three sections. Part One discusses the internal environment of a business and accordingly, organisational theory is introduced along with a discussion of the internal functions and a review of the theory relating to objectives, culture, structure, etc.
Part two goes on to look at the micro or near external environment. It examines the forces of demand and supply, and then goes on to examine industries and markets - what they are and how they can affect business organisations within them.
Finally, Part three examines the outer layer of the external business environment - sometimes called the PEST or STEP environment. Following this, some of the topics of most debate in the current academic literature are introduced - business ethics and international business.
