Product Description

Most books on transmission and distribution electrical engineering are student texts that focus on theory, brief overviews, or specialised monographs. Colin Bayliss and Brian Hardy have produced a unique and comprehensive handbook aimed squarely at practising engineers and planners involved in all aspects of getting electricity from the power plant to the user via the power grid.

The scope of this book embraces power systems, substations, cabling, switchgear, power systems protection, overhead lines, project management, planning, regulations, and more...

The third edition has been fully updated throughout in line with current IEC and European standards, an approach which has resulted in a thoroughly rewritten chapter on earthing and bonding and significant revisions to the chapters on EMC, insulation coordination and overhead line design. There is increased emphasis on reliability concepts and greatly expanded treatment of the subject of power quality..

The resulting book is an essential guide and a hard-working reference for all engineers, technicians, managers and planners involved in the electricity supply industry, and related areas such as generation, and industrial electricity usage.

1. A reference handbook written by engineers for engineers
2. Unrivalled in its scope, covering systems, substations, cabling, switchgear, power systems protection, overhead lines, project management, planning, regulations, and more...
3. The third edition includes expanded sections on power quality, a thoroughly updated section on earthing and bonding, and coverage of the integration embedded generation and renewables in modern power systems

Editorial Reviews

Review
'Surely the most comprehensive tome ever published on the subject. Transmission and Distribution Electrical Engineering should be weighing down the bookshelves of all engineers, manufacturers and contractors involved with transmission and distribution networks.', Electrical Review

'Colin Bayliss should be applauded for producing... a book that presents a comprehensive range of subjects that would give the young engineer a good base knowledge of transmission and distribution electrical engineering and to help him or her to be a useful member of a project team.', Power Engineering Journal

Practical reference for the engineer5
Now in its second edition this is a ~1000 page reference book that bridges the gap between specialist university text books and narrow reference documents. The "Electrical Review" has reviewed the book as "Surely the most comprehensive tome ever published on the subject. Transmission and Distribution Electrical Engineering should be weighing down the bookshelves of all engineers, manufacturers and contractors involved with transmission and distribution networks." It is intended for the practising engineer and contains many practical examples for the correct analysis of a situation and the determination of the most appropriate specifications for transmission and distribution equipment. The book moves from fundamentals, drawings and system studies through to switchgear, protection, earthing, substation and overhead transmission line design. The second edition contains additional new chapters on distribution planning and power system harmonics.

A definitive and reliable reference book5
This book provides comprehensive coverage of all the subjects requiring consideration when designing and installing transmission and distribution systems. It has been fully updated from the last edition to to take into account changes in relevant regulations and standards. Recent trends in earthing and bonding, EMC and protection equipment have also been thoroughly covered.

This is an invaluable reference book for any engineer involved with electrical distribution networks and the author's broad experience base gives the reader confidence in the discussions of the various methods applied in the industry throughout the world.
