Product Description

Internal Auditing is an essential tool for managing compliance with health and safety, environmental safety and quality standards. Increasingly these three areas are audited by the same professionals to proliferating standards (e.g. OHSAS 18001 for health and safety, ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for environment). This book delivers a powerful and proven approach to auditing business-critical risk areas. It covers each of the aspects that need to be taken into account for a successful audit to recognised standards and is an important resource for auditors, managers, health and safety professionals, and anyone with a critical interest in governance and organizational improvement.

Editorial Reviews

Review
"This book can assist employers and prospective and practicing auditors to better understand their respective roles and also the potential value to the organisation of a well-designed and conducted audit undertaken by a competent auditor or audit team."
Rob Strange, Chief Executive, Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), UK

"This [book] is an excellent read, brilliantly written by two authors who clearly know their subject, express their approach well in straightforward language that even the non-specialist will grasp, enhanced by good graphics and layout which, quite simply, make it the best book on the subject currently available. If you are an HSEQ auditor, or have ambitions in this field, I strongly recommend you study this book. As both an introduction to a vital organisational business process and a vade mecum for the working auditor, it deserved to become the standard work in this area."
Dr Andrew Rankine, Safety and Health Practitioner, July 2007

"All in all this is an excellent book by two authors who are among the best in the world at both auditing and training auditors. It is highly recommended."
Content 4 out of 4 stars, Presentation 4 out of 4 stars, Value 4 out of 4 stars.
Tom Gillanders, Health and Safety at Work, August 2007

"an interesting book for intending auditors who are seeking an introduction to auditing."
Health and Safety Review, July/August 2007

A great read for current and prospective HSEQ auditors5
Some years ago, I met Steve Asbury at a seminar where he was a guest speaker. I liked him from when I first talked with him after his session, and his passion for protecting people in workplaces astonished me. He told me he was writing a book about compelling continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance. I have been waiting to read it....

I bought this book recently, and it has done nothing to dint my impressions of the man. The book is beautifully written and illustrated -clear from cover to cover. If reading a full book is too much for you, the appendix at the back which summarises the 70 main points (Asbury Factors) made in the test is worth twice the cover price alone - compelling reading indeed.

When I did my HSE degree, this book would have helped a lot. I spent much time reading around, and here you have a source which "covers it all". I do recommend this title to you - indeed it sits as one of my all-time top 10 books on health and safety (etc) - look at my "Listmania" list for the balance.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

what a great book5
OK, a book on Auditing isn't going to slip into your shopping trolley for bedtime reading. The authors know who their target market is and have produced a book to meet the exacting requirements of those involved in HSEQ auditing, or those who need to get up to speed pdq

This book is very well reasearched and put together. It has a logical flow that makes it easy to follow. It starts with a compelling case for the rise and rise of auditing in the modern world. Public and private sectors must find ways of proving they are working towards excellence. The profile of HSQE auditing has never been higher

After an interetsing section on economics (which is, incidentally, explained much more clearly than in the textbooks that accompanied my degree in Economics...I wish I had this book back then!), the authors move on to the 'how to' section. The real value of this book lies in its simplicity. It has managed to grapple with an inherently complex topic and portray the key principles in an accessible way. This is quite a feat, as most technical books manage to tangle me in big words. There's even a place for humour, so, come on, anyone who can bring a smile or two to the world of H&S deserves top marks.

The book finishes nicely with some of the people and team aspects of auditing. The process is quite technical, but it's important that auditors have the right set of people skills to influence and gain rapport.

All in all, a very satisfactory book. I feel as though I've learned a great deal. It might not be a bedtime read, but it's a very informative one. Wholeheartedly recommended

A must read for new and experienced auditors5
This is a great read. Complete with "top tips" all auditors - new and experienced - will benefit from the valuable guidance and expert tuition in this book.
As an experienced auditor reading the book I found myself identifying areas of my work that could do with a refresher - and as such believe my auditing has now improved.
Highly recommended.
