Product Description

Charting the lives of Queen Victoria's five daughters, this book closely examines a generation of royal women who were dominated by their mother and married off as much for political considerations as for love. Vicky, Alice, Helena, Louise, and Beatrice would come to share many of the social restrictions and familial machinations borne by nineteenth-century women of far less-exulted class, before finally being passed over entirely with the accession of their brother Bertie to the throne. Principally researched at the houses and palaces of its five subjects in London, Scotland, Berlin, Darmstadt, and Ottawa.

Fabulous insight into Victorian family life5
As an avid fan of Royal History I have read many books on the life of Queen Vic. This book provides another dimension - an insight into the personal lives of her daughters ( and to some extent her sons) and their relationships with not only their parents but their siblings, their husbands and indeed their own children. Impossible to put down - an absolute must for any fans of historical biography!

The book was very informative in regards to the daughters4
This book gave a clearer understanding of the daughters being true sisters to one another just like any other normal family. This is the first book I have read that gave a clear view of what Queen Victoria's daughters fears, loves and hopes were all about.

A Good Read4
An excellent book which was hard to put down. Victoria had a large family but generally only the link to the current British Royal Family is the subject of scrutiny.
This book covers the five daughters of Victoria and more importantly Vicky and Alice. Vicky was the mother of the German Kaiser and Alice's daughter Alexandra was to be the last Tsarina of Russia. Two major events in history.
