But, by 1912 the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) had been formed, combining the Air Battalion of the royal Engineers and the Naval Air Organization. Two years later, just one month before the outbreak of World War I, the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) was created as an independent unit. About the Author
Peter G. Cooksley was a training officer in the RAF/ROC, and is the author of over twenty books on aviation subjects including The Air VCs and The Men Who Changed the World. He was one-time vice-president of Cross & Cockade Society International - the Society of First World War Aviation Historians and is an associate member of the Royal Historical Society. Peter lives in Surrey.
