A Useful Book4
This book provides an excellent summary to the countries of the world: capital city, flag, currency, language, government... A good snapshot and very useful for homework. It's a great resource for a school library. Unfortunately it's out of date and DK don't seem to have any plans to re-issue it.

Two Hoots for Democracy2
Though I bought this book with great expectations, I was utterly disappointed. My main complaint is the rather step- motherly treatment accorded to the World's largest democracy India. It was shocking to see 10 pages dedicated to countries like China, Japan & Canada whereas the second most populous nation on earth gets hardly three pages! A reward of sorts perhaps for maintaining democratic traditions agst all odds. You will also find pictures of former chinese communist dictators & Japanese emperors but absolutely nothing about India's former elected prime ministers or it's many general elections. Another glaring mistake appears on page 37 where under the piture of UAE defence minister Sheikh Mohammed, the caption reads "UAE PM Sheikh Maktoum" who actually is nowhere in the photograph. I hope that DK will try to correct the imbalances in their next addition though very few publishers actually do so.
