One of America's most fascinating superstars, Al Pacino is also one of its most complex, enigmatic personalities, whose private life has been cloaked in mystery- until now. Whilst his astonishing performaces have established him as one of the greatest actors of our time, Andrew Yule reveals that he has spent most of his life at war with himself. A traumatic childhood, years of grinding poverty and an inability to sustain relationships with, amongst others, Jill Calyburgh, Tuesday Weld and Diane Keaton have lead to a turbulent, unstable private life- a life nearly destroyed by an apparently hopeless alcohol addiction. International success after The Godfather only served to intensify the crushing personal pressures on Pacino, and he has since had to live with some of the worst career moves in the history of Hollywood. Combining intensive research with extraordinarily frank interviews with Pacino's closest friends and associates, Andrew Yule strips away the wall of secrecy behind which the reclusive star has hidden and paints a startlingly intimate portrait of a truly remarkable personality.

A wasted opportunity
Mr Yule has taken the life of the worlds greatest ever actor and presented it in a clinical way that makes it clear but also very dull. There is no personal involvement from Pacino and it shows as each story will be instantly known by fans who have followed Pacino's career for any length of time. It is nice for Pacino fan's to have a single volume of his life, but I would recommend it only to die hard fans, those with less interest spend the money on one of his excellent films.
Absolutlely Brilliant!
I thought this book was very informative. Al Pacino is obviously a very private person but I still felt I got to know him so much better. It was good to hear all about his relationships in more details than Ive heard before. It went into detail about all his films and what people thought of him as a person and the way he behaved. If you love Al Pacino as I do, this book is a must...
