Beauty queen turned actress Nicole Springer is recovering from the deaths of her father and her best friend, and is healing after the discovery that her boyfriend Raymond Tyler was having an affair - with another man. Her path to happiness leads to a starring role in Broadway and a relationship with a white Jewish doctor. But the past cannot be forgotten. Though Raymond's career as a lawyer has taken him south to Atlanta, he must return to New York City when their mutual friend Kyle falls sick with AIDS. Continuing the soap-opera saga begun in INVISIBLE LIFE, E. Lynn Harris's new novel deals with themes of race, family and sexuality with wit, humour and compassion

Black guy struggling with "coming out"
I came upon this book purely by accident. This is the second book of a triology by E.Lynn Harris. It is all about the coming to terms with gay life of a young black lawyer . The book grips you and it is difficult to put down so much so that it sent me on a search of the first of the triology 'INVISIBLE LIFE" and finally the last book of the triology 'ABIDE WITH ME'. I think I fell in love with the main character in these books...Raymond Tyler...his struggle with racism & homosexuality and his Christian faith. I read this book twice with a space of a year in between.
Personal Reflection
This is the first book I have read by Harris. It forced me to challenge some of my views, opinions and question the rationale behind them.
Not sure how this type of book relates to sitiation London. The characters are weak confused with the exception of Kyle, the only person in the novel who actually makes the book worth reading. The revalation in the part 2 of the book sparks interest in an otherwise boring story.
In spite of the above I think the book raises some important issues that need to be brought to the fore and therefore is worth reading.
A book that encapsulates, joy, pain, loss, hope & love
Yet again, Harris hits every note of you're heart strings with a combination sensitivity and reality. Just As I Am forces the reader to become involved with rendering pain of the characters that we have come to love.
As a virgin to E.Lynn Harris- This book would give you an incurable addiction for the beautiful and in depth passion with which these charcters develop.
As a Harris follower I can only say that his novels continue to entrap me........a definate must for everyone!!
