Customer Reviews

Dynasty Series is Excellent5
I have been reading the Dynasty series for the past 10 years - she always seems to bring another book out just before my holidays. I am unsure how many there are and whether there is a new one out - can anyone help?

Intelligent and gripping historical fiction.5
Literary critics may look down their noses at historical novels, but strong characterisation and intelligent use of period setting elevate Cynthia Harrod-Eagles above many other writers. The latest in her 'Morland Dynasty' series opens in 1870. The Franco-Prussian war, court etiquette under Victoria, medical developments, the life of servants and the emergence of Darwinism are all touched upon, but the cental theme is the role of women. This is explored through the lives of members of an extended family. Venetia longs to train as a doctor, Olivia becomes a lady-in-waiting and Henrietta marries a middle-aged clergyman. Hero(ines) and villain(esses) there may be, but not stereotypes. Alfreda's painful adolescence, relying on the charity of others, helps to make her mercanary, even ruthless. Readers of earlier books will also be able to see how houses, characteristics, even ghosts are passed down through the generations. However, even if this is your first taste of Cynthia, don't delay! I caught the bug eighteen years ago, now I can't wait for number twenty three.......

Can't wait for it5
I just LOVE this series and I can't wait for this one to come out so I can see what happens to all the characters. It's definitely the best series I have ever read.
