Product Description

Since 1994, when the first 'Time Team' programme was broadcast, archaeology has been brought to life for millions of people. This book combines the talents of two of the programme's key players in an exciting series of reconstructions.

Victor Ambrus has produced hundreds of sketches and drawings of archaeological sites and the lives of those who would have inhabited them. For the first time his drawings of individual excavations have been brought together to provide a dramatic chronological survey of British history - from Stone Age to modern via the Romans, the Vikings and more. Victor has braved all conditions to draw reconstructions on site, working alongside the archaeologists while artefacts are uncovered. Co-operating closely with other experts he has created a fascinating vision of the past through pictures.

Add to this Mick Aston's lively explanations and photographs - plus an extended introduction - and you have an archaeological collaboration which is guaranteed to delight. Mick Aston, 'Time Team's' charismatic chief archaeologist, has contributed a passion and enthusiasm for archaeology which is infectious. He is the author of the standard work on landscape and archaeology, 'Interpreting the Landscape' and amongst his other work has written the immensely popular 'Mick's Archaeology'.

Let Victor and Mick take you on a visual journey through history...

Superb drawings from Time Team by Victor Ambrus5
This great little book includes a good range of Victor's historical drawings, many of which are from Channel 4's Time Team programme. The drawings really help to bring the past to life, and there is a very helpful commentary by Mick Aston.

Recreating the past - Excellent!5
This is a great book if you are in to history and what things actually looked like at the time. Victor Ambrus is a brillient historical artist - I first became aware of him through the TV program "Time Team". One of the best uses of this book that I have seen is to use it as a good pictorial basis for historical modelling or recreation - I can't recommend it enough. Its a shame that it appears to be currently out of print and that I had to get it secondhand through Amazon marketplace.
If you are in to your History and good accurate drawings get this book.

Recreating the Past5
Well done book with wonderful illustrations. A must for anyone interested in history and/or archeology. Even a genealogist might find it of interest to give a window into the living conditions in a specific time period.
