Average customer review:Product Description
This text traces the history of the modern Special Boat Service of the Royal Marines. It explores the raids and reconnaissance missions made by the SBS from World War II to Desert Storm. The exploits covered include their destruction of obstacles on the beaches to make way for the D-Day landing, attacking Japanese warships in Singapore, securing the beaches of the Falklands for the Marines and Parachute Regiment and landing behind enemy lines during the Gulf War and cutting communication cables. The book also examines the SBS's modern role as a crack anti-terrorist force.

These Bouys make the SAS training and exercise look 2nd best
This book takes you from the history of the SBS who were once called the Royal Marine Boom Patrol Detachment. In this book it takes you from the early days of thier training and experiments with midget submarines and diving. It start with the operations that they did and admits to some of the faults that they made and how they were and still are sub titled after the SAS.It talks about the missions that no other book speaks of,for example the blowing up of the mines in the shallow waters just infront of the Normandy beaches which prevented all the landding craft from exploding,in my view "Never has so much been owned to so few".Lots more of interesting trials that they attempted like bording oil rigs via canoe or absaling onto a ship from helicopter. The book is a interesting book which needs constant concentration as it is buzzing with information all the way through. This is a very compeling read and a good follow up to this book would be "First Into Action" by Duncan Falconer which speaks the truth about the SBS and the SAS as it isn't bais towards either, even though the author served with the SBS.
