Product Description

Martin Scorsese's obsession with sin and redemption, conflict and violence runs through much of his work. This guide to Scorsese explores his career from his early student works, including "It's Not Just You, Murray", through his personal examinations of his Italian-American heritage in "Mean Streets", "Italianamerican" and "Goodfellas", the extreme violence of "Raging Bull", "Taxi Driver" and "Cape Fear", and the religious themes - from a director who originally wanted to be a priest - of "The Last Temptation of Christ" and "Kundun". Including all of Scorsese's films up to "Gangs of New York", this is a comprehensive study of the work of this widely respected film maker. Also covering his influences, the controversy surrounding his films, exhaustive music lists and long-time collaborators, this extensive analysis argues that Scorsese is the most consistently passionate, committed and inventive director since 1970.

Are you insulting me??? Are you insulting me???1
I have to hold up my hands and say I enjoyed two aspects of this book. The shiver I felt when I first picked it up and then finally when I sold it on ebay. Dear oh dear. An excellent chance to profile the films and career of one the greatest directors in history wasted!!! The point of Scorcese's direction is that he is versatile and he is not set in stone. Gangs of New York proved that. No mention was made of his early theatre work where he cut his teeth directing such plays as "Our Country's Good". Very very off putting.

Terrible1
Black Caesar always big fan of Scorcese's work. Caesar first in line at opening of Taxi Driver in home village. Caesar even shave hair and change name to Bickle for two months. That is how big a fan. Caesar had hope this book would help him revisit old fondness. Caesar wrong. Very wrong. This book indicative of biographical pap. Lacks style and originality with retrospection of work. Caesar will not buy.
