'In the beginning was the three-pointed star, One smile of light across the empty face; One bough of bone across the rooting air, The substance forked that marrowed the first sun; And, burning cophers on the round of space, Heaven and hell mixed as they spun.' This is a rich collection of Dylan Thomas's best-loved poems and stories, as well as pieces he wrote for radio and magazines. The selection spans Thomas's writing lifetime, and it shows the full range of this tempestuous and meticulous artist who once cheerfully claimed that he had beast, angel and madman within him.

About the Author
Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea on 27 October 1914, the son of a senior English master. On leaving school he worked on the South Wales Evening Post before embarking on his literary career in London. Not only a poet, he wrote short stories, film scripts, features and radio plays, the most famous being Under Milk Wood. On 9 November 1953, shortly after his thirty-ninth birthday, he collapsed and died in New York city. In 1982 a memorial stone to commemorate him was unveiled in 'Poet's Corner' in Westminster Abbey.

A Must Have
This book contains a selection of Dylan Thomas' more popular poems and short stories, also including broadcasts, such as the absolutely fantastic Under Milk Wood.
Reading Thomas is a real treat, his poems call to us and his stories grab and hold us. From humour to pathos Thomas gives us tales of everyday life with real characters that we can all relate to; the scenery of Wales comes to life and we feel that we have walked there.
So, if you've had a stressful day, make a cup of tea, put your feet up and relax and enjoy this wonderful collection.
