Average customer review:Product Description
Described by Szigeti as "one of the last great individualists among violinists", Alfred Campoli was a household name in the field of light music prior to World War II. After the war, Campoli changed direction and pursued a long and successful career as a concert performer at the international level. This biography charts Campoli's early success and his later struggle for recognition as a serious artist. Campoli's career emerges as one particularly shaped and directed by the great economic and social forces of the first half of the century, and this is as much the story of his times as his life.

An excellent biography or a very great violinist
I recommend this book to anyone interested in reading about one of the great violinists of the 20th century. David Tunley has extensively researched Campolis life and discography and has included photographs that really evoke the era.I myself studied the violin with Campoli and much enjoyed reading about his life.
