Product Description

Star prosecutor Kristen Mayhew has a dangerous, secret admirer.

He seems to knows her every thought, her every move. He sends her letters. And he kills the criminals she herself is powerless to stop.

This avenger even knows Kristen's deepest secret - the one that has made her keep her distance from Abe Reagan, the police detective sent to protect her.

In the shadow of a calculating serial killer, the two have no alternative but to work together if they are to stop the messages and halt the vicious murders. Because sooner or later, the killer's obsessive need for retribution will make Kristen a target and then their real problems will begin...

Very interesting.5
I love stories that challenge my own perceptions and this one had me doing a bit of thinking at the end. This story is about a vigilante killer who is taking out some of society's worst offenders. These guys all got off in court by a technicality or by their defense lawyer being total scum and discrediting the Prosecution's witnesses. Kristen Mayhew tries so hard to put these jerks away as an ASA but she can't get them all. But someone has decided to help her and he calls himself Your Humble Servant. She gets close to the cop assigned to her case, Abe Reagan but there are issues that both of them are dealing with that keeps them at arms lengths from each other. The book is extremely fast paced and I only put it down to get some sleep. I had to look at whether I thought the killer was actually a killer or if he was doing a society a favor!! I would also like to recommend reading Tino Georgiou's masterpiece--The Fates--if you haven't yet...that is!

Great book-have asked author to write faster5
I've just discovered Karen Rose; I have just finished reading this one(her latest)- she is very very good- if you like suspense with feisty heroines;alpha males( do we need any other kind?)-intelligent writing & gripping plots;then she's the one for you.
Kristen Mayhew is a dedicated prosecutor who is very good at her job.Through no fault of her own she has lost a few cases as well. Then someone "helps " her by executing those scummy offenders who got away-she gets caught in between the vigilante & the police & some other very nasty characters. As expected in a romance novel, there is a gorgeous alpha male -the attraction is mutual;the writing here is very clever-you can feel the sparks-but Kristen's character fights it-and the author does an excellent job of drawing the reader in & making then understand Kristen's reasons-but it does not detract from the story in anyway-The hero also has his own burdens ,but none of this ever weighs down the story.
and of course; the unmasking of the villain is nailbiting.
There is a happy ending of course, and even here;Rose makes you share the characters' feelings that even this is an unexpected miracle for them-
In all, a very good start- I even emailed her this morning to ask her to write faster-she's definately one whose work I shall be adding to my bookshelves as soon as they are published.

thoroughly enjoyable and hard to put down5
Kirsten Mayhew is the star prosecuter for Chicago Public Defenders Office - but you can't win 'em all and when she loses one particularly high profile case her life is turned upside down. With a killer on the loose who is managing to gain public sympathy (he kills those who everyone believes deserve to die) and a back story interweaving Kirsten's home and professional life the whole plot is tight and well paced. The characters are both engaging and believable and the romance is very good.

One of the most pleasing aspects is it's a thick book - and all of it is worth reading.

Really very good, I enjoyed count to ten and this has definitely put her on my must have list.
