Review
This excellent book starts of with how to determine the type of paint on your car. Older cars were painted with either enamel or laquer prior to modern high tech polyurethene paints. The 3 types are incomatibale with each other so you must use the same type of paint as originally used. on a complete job, 95 percent of the work is preperation the only 5 percent of the time is devoted to painting. Paint chemistry, thinners and additives are all covered in detail as are supporting products. Tools, materials and safety are examined in detail including the selection of compressors and spray guns. Although about painting, there are a few pages devoted to removing dents and minor repairs to the metalwork that should be done before final painting. Preperation is covered in detail including all the stages of sanding, applying primer and sealing. There is a complete chapter on how to mask your car to avoid overspray. Paint application notes are quite comprehensive, and there is a 2 page chart on repairing imperfections and problem solving. Hopefully, after reading this book, you won't find any problems. Finally, there is a chapter on painting flames, pinstriping etc. --Model Engineers' Workshop Magazine
This is a great book it is the first that I purchased before diving into automobile painting and I still frequently reference it. It is a bit dated by today's standards but, still covers the basics very well. I also own John Pfanstiehl's Automotive Paint Handbook (which is also excelent) and Don Taylor's & Larry Hofer's Paint & Body Handbook and this compares favorably to both of those. Pay attention to the captions there is a lot of good information to be found there. All in all it is a great book and I recommend it. It is a great reference to have around. --Chris Sharman

the best book on painting cars i have found
this book is by far the best book on painting cars that i have found. it does not get much more complete than this book does, and i would recomend it to anyone either interested in painting their own car, or even having their car painted at a shop so they know what to do or how it should be done
Great info!

Great book with high quality illustrations
A great book for background information on car body painting. Very high quality COLOUR illustrations. Only backside is the american bias on products and cars ;-( - seen from an european point of view... But very informative and clear in text and layout.
