Very useful
I read this book before I visiting Syria for two weeks and it helped me immensely. It's very readable and, although there's a lot in it, the information is very easy to manage. It's definitely geared more towards somebody who will be staying in Syria for an extended period of time than someone like me who was just visiting, but all of the information that didn't relate to me directly came as good background knowledge for me to better understand the culture. Aside from one or two minor issues (which were probably more to do with the fact that this book was originally written almost a decade ago more so than any ignorance on the author's behalf) I found that everything in here was accurate. That didn't come as a surprise to me because my dad, who is Syrian himself, puts this book in high regard.
