An over-simplified account of the new MacOS
The title promises to teach you all the important things you need to know about MacOS 10.1. It's certainly an easy to follow guide, written in a style that is very easy-to-follow. It's also logically organised, going from startup and installation, through to using some of the built-in applications, and on to more "advanced" things such as using the range of iTools applications.
But, even as a new-comer to the world of the Mac, I found that the book stopped at far too simple a level. At times, it felt as though I was being told what a mouse or a window was, rather than having a full description of the new interface metaphors. There is also scant information about the more advanced issues (like using the terminalWindow to gain access to Darwin).
If readers want a basic (but readable) guide to both the new Mac OS interface and computer-interaction in general, then this would be a very good choice. If you know how to operate a Windows-like machine, however, and want some more 'meaty' information, you will probably be left feeling a little hungry after this book.
