Product Description

`A welcome and helpful addition to the shelves of tutors and students working on masters programmes. It will be most beneficial supporting students on programmes where there is a substantial research training component. It offers important exemplars of using computer software in qualitative analysis' - Educational Review

`This book is aimed at Master's students who are engaging in educational research for the first time. [It] provides teacher-researchers with the additional information they need so they can go on to read further and more in depth, having more confidence in the accessibility of such studies. I found it does this well, and is an ideal point of reference for those who are just embarking on a Master's degree. A useful glossary is provided, giving detailed but 'readable' explanations of key terms and phrases' - Primary Practice

It provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the key qualitative and quantitative methods necessary for those commencing research for the first time. Customer Reviews

A very poor contender within the field of research1
There are a number of reasons for which, as an academic, I cannot take this book seriously as as an authority within the arena of educational research:
FIRSTLY, the grammatical error on the cover ("A Guide to First Time Researchers" which ought to read "A Guide FOR First Time Researchers");
SECONDLY, the extensive use of word art within the book to emphasise headings - this emphasises instead the lack of coherence within the manuscript with regards to uniformity and academic dignity and style;
THIRDLY, there are a number of basic grammatical errors (e.g. "it's" instead of "its")which leads one to wonder how this text ever got past the editor;
and FOURTHLY, there are no new ideas within the text at all - it is merely a rehash (and a fairly shameless one at that) of ideas, theories and hypotheses from other published material.

I deeply regret the money I paid for this book, and intend to seek reparation.

For any would-be buyers: I would suggest further research in this area for better presented, more professionally produced and therefore better value-for-money texts.
