Good book for learning the basics of SQL Server
I'm a certified Oracle DBA and picked up this book with no prior knowledge of SQL Server. After reading it twice and playing with the evaluation version of SQL Server 2000 that comes on the accompanying CD I have gained a good understanding of the product and have grown quite competent in administering SQL Server 2000 databases. Whilst this book doesnt attempt to tell the reader everything possible about SQL Server, (There are other books on the market that attempt to do this but they assume a prior knowledge of the product) it achieves what it sets out to do by giving the reader a solid grounding in the technology. After reading this book I am now able to navigate, use and administer SQL Server 2000 databases at one of my client's sites and although my no means have I become a SQL Server guru I would feel confident to state to prospective clients that I had relevant and current SQL Server skills.
Install and run MS SQL server in 1..2..3..
Impressed with this introductory book on MS SQL and it delivered what the author says in preface "no-nonsense, hands-on introduction to SQL Server". It doesn't make you a SQL database administrator with in a weekend but it surely let you Know how to up and running SQL server in a weekend. It's easy to understand and first step to more advanced level.
