Product Description

"What tests do I order, and what do the results mean?" Here is the compendium that provides the answers - quickly and clearly - for a vast range of adult and pediatric conditions. This thoroughly updated Seventh Edition of "Interpretation of Diagnostic Tests" is a must for residents and practitioners in every specialty. Arranged by organ system, the book summarizes the available tests for most diseases, explains what the results would mean, and discusses differential diagnoses. This edition features major revisions in cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, metabolic and hereditary, and genitourinary chapters, plus highlighted "Key Diagnostic Finding" information to aid accessibility. Readers can search for information in the way that best suits their needs--by index, table of contents, test results, or specific disease. Also included are extensive tables of normal and panic values, tables comparing test results in similar diseases, and an appendix of conversion factors between conventional and SI units.

Customer Reviews

An invaluable book for physicians and health workers5
This comprehensive and erudite book covers the full range of diagnostic tests and their interpretation. The layout means that readers can search for information by body system, test, disease or findings, making it a useful guide for a range of health care workers, laboratory scientists, medical writers and students. I find this book particularly useful for spotlighting aberrent results; "panic" tables and comparisons of similar disease help the reader to distinguish artefactual findings from potential problems. The only quibble is that cross referencing is not all it could be, but this is to be expected in a book with such in-depth coverage. Highly recommended!

The most complete, handy reference of lab tests ever written5
I have been using this reference for several years. I can't practice medicine without it. I have made many esoteric diagnoses with it. It is extremely helpful whenever I have abnormal lab values, which do not seem to make sense at the time. Other lab references pale in comparison. Not only are abnormal labs explained, but the disease processes as well. I really like the way the book divides the elevated lab value from the decreased lab value, with their respective etiologies. An essential, excellent book!
