Product Description

This uniquely readable, compact, and concise monograph lays a foundation of knowledge of the underlying concepts of normal cardiovascular function. Students welcome the book's broad overview as a practical partner or alternative to a more mechanistically oriented approach or an encyclopedic physiology text. Especially clear explanations, ample illustrations, a helpful glossary of terms, tutorials, and chapter-opening learning objectives provide superb guidance for self-directed learning and help fill the gap in many of today's abbreviated physiology blocks.A focus on well-established cardiovascular principles reflects recent, widely accepted cardiovascular research. The supplemental CD-ROM is an interactive, dynamically linked version of the book, which is organized by normal cardiovascular function and cardiac disease. Students may begin a path of questioning with, for example, a disease condition and then pursue background information through a series of links. Students can also link to the author's regularly updated Web site for additional clinical information.

Different Style, Different Standard5
This book is perfect for systems-based approach, an excellent review and reference. It moves through the concepts in a progressive stepwise approach, building on detail. Molecular basis makes grasping the concepts, and understanding them in detail a lot easier. Concepts are developed well in the text. It never becomes boring or becomes a drudge to get to the end of a topic. Concise enough for a student who just wants the overall basic concepts to pass, with the detail and explanations for a student to ace any cardiovascular physiology exam. This is the clearest and most eloquent text on the topic that I have read, far clearer than Berne & Levy 'Principles..' and Ganong 'Review..', as the writing is almost conversation like, as opposed to the hum-drum lecture style of other texts. The beauty of this book is that it leads you by the hand through a complex area, explaining each concept in sufficient detail, not labouring the points, but not skipping them either. Other texts may be more esteemed in the view of medics, but they already know all this stuff. Simple language avoids overcomplicating the subjects. This book teaches the subject very well. Obviously written by a person who has a huge understanding of the area and allows you to see the wood for the trees. Some texts get bogged down in details and head off on tangents, but this text works through the course in a progressive and rational style. By understanding the system physiology at the molecular level, the pathology and underlying pathophysiological mechanisms becomes obvious, and much easier to understand.
