Nursing Research
Really good, non-jargon and was recommended to me initially by a friend. I had no idea about research methods before I read this and so far, about 60% of it has stuck since reading relevant chapters.
research for dummies!
An excellent choice of book. This book provides everything from basic definations for the novice researcher to vital in depth information for the more expert researcher. This book provided invaluable information right the way through my nurse training and continued to assist me to complete my degreee and dissertation. A must for any nurse studying research.
6th edition - what happened?!
"We have never been so enthusiastic about any of the earlier editions of this book..." and "introducing important innovations" is written in the preface of the 6th edition of this well known and highly appraised textbook. New to this edition are: Enhanced Assistance in Critiquing Studies, More Emphasis on Evidence-Based Practice Implications, Better Coverage of Qualitative Research, Greater Facilitation in Learning the Basics and Enhanced Support for Instructors!
However, probably because of the greater facilitation in learning the basics and enhanced support for instructors, the book now looks like a school book for primary schools! Lots of "consumer tips", "examples", "how to tell" and "additional questions" etc. in colourful boxes, the writing in too many different colours and stiles and a terrible layout! For me this is not helpful at all and I regret not having purchased an earlier edition!
Maybe all those changes support learning on a very basic level, but it is certainly most disturbing for learning and use on a higher educational level!
I do not recommend this edition of a formerly excellent book!
