Customer Reviews
Useful and helpful
If you are about to take 70-229 exam, this book will DEFINITELY help you. Solid volume of the book includes almost every feature of MS SQL 2000. So it starts with basics of database design and smothly leads you to more advanced features of SQL (as a language and standard) and SQL server (as a database server). Therefore I would suggest to use it even them who just started studying of SQL and database design. Every chapter includes review questions, which could be helpful to memorise general ideas (but not for me in particular). "Real world scenarios" are just brilliant. I suggest to use them as a first-stage preparation for exam questions. Test exam which comes with a book on CD is helpful addon for other testing software, but no more. So it's definitely worthwhile to get additional testing software.
Book contains a lot of examples for every tiny feature. It might be a positive as well as a negative for some of you. I skipped many of them, however this information could be used in your daily work as a reference.
Unfortunatelly, there is a lack of information about XML in the book. (Possibly this is the only significant "minus"). Book helps you to answer XML-related exam questions, but no more.
So summarising everything, this book and testing software will give you a success on your test.
Best Certification Book I've Used
After using Microsoft official texts to achieve MCAD .NET I found this book a breath of fresh air.
I found it very easy to read with concise examples and no needless rambling. Each chapter ends with a summary, exam essentials and a set of questions to check you understood everything. The book covers everything you need for the exam with one small exception, an overview of Database Replication.
I will now be looking to Sybex first for all my certification needs in the future.
