A brilliant journey of the imagination.5
THE STORY:
The dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden fights against other people's prejudice even as he and his friends, Bruenor, Wulfgar, Regis and Cattie-brie, battle the dangers of the Forgotten Realms.

WHAT'S GOOD:
First off, this trilogy starts with a group of seasoned veteran characters instead of the usual 'sheltered naieve youth', which makes it a welcome change. Salvatore is an extremely skilled writer, fluidly combining action with romance, politics with heroism. The characters themselves are instanty likeable too, each in their own way, and I'd say that they're a fantasy team second only to the Fellowship of the Ring.

WHAT'S BAD:
Not much. The repeated apparent deaths of main characters began to wear a bit thin and one of them was practically a carbon copy of Lord of the Rings (one of the heroes falls into the depths of an abandoned dwarf mine whilst fighting a gigantic creature, only to return from the grave).

Any fan of heroic and epic fantasy would be foolish to miss this and no real knowledge of the Forgotten Realms series is needed to enjoy it.

Lord of the rings, what's all that about then?!!5
At last a book to finally rival Lord of the rings. There's not much to say apart from - you gotta buy it, I was hooked right from the start.
The author strikes a perfect balance between action, humour and the advancement of the plot. I've never read a book that has been so difficult to put down. I managed to read it in 3 days! and was gutted when i finished it.
The characters are fantastic, sounds stupid, but theres a tiny part of your imagination that makes you want to believe they actually do exist! :)
Read this book, and read the Lord of the rings. If you don't think Icewind dale is better... then i'm a bearded gnome!

Rite, i'm off to order the dark elf trilogy!

Review of the Ice Wind Dale Trilogy4
This was my second experience into the world of Drizzt Do'Urden, my first was when I read the Dark Elf Trilogy. I had always tended to stay away from the whole Dungeons and Dragons type book, seeing them as rather childish but again, RA. Salvatore has created a well put together Anti-Hero in the form of Drizzt Do'Urden, one who struggles against his dark history, fighting for his unique blend of justice. The Ice Wind Dale trilogy, while more of a formulaic story and written before the Dark Elf Trilogy, worked well in continuing this story, can't wait to see what happens next
