Customer Reviews
Personally, I disagree with these other reviews
I found this a very readable book, and in fact read it cover to cover inside two days. Whilst I had previously programmed in a small way in Visual Basic and therefore was not entirely unfamiliar with the concepts, I felt that the book dealt in an easy to understand manner with a number of complex issues. I disagree that it is only for database programmers, as the sections in the book on database programming were in fact pretty short. I only noticed these reviews when I recommended the book to a friend, and he pointed them out to me. In short, if you want a thorough grounding that will give you sufficient knowledge to understand MSDN documentation, then I can recommend it. Having now used VB for a complex project, I am of the opinion that a single book on the subject that covers everything in huge detail would be simply unmanageable, and unncessary because of the plethora of other sources of help. This book gives you an introduction that will allow you to understand the online documentation.
Beginners-DON'T buy this book
I wish I had seen this before I wasted my money. To the beginner it contains too much theory and not enough practical examples.
Brilliant For Access, But Nothing Else
This book is good if you are using an Access Database. However, Access is the only database platform it covers. SQL, Sybase, Oracle etc are not even mentioned!
If you want to use ActiveX with any other databases, - Don't buy this book!
A general idea of Visual Basic is given, But no more.
