Taste this honey?
An opening page with obvious signs of a hostile relationship between Helen and Jo. They may well be mother and daughter although their conversations seem more like verbal sparring.
Has Jo a right to critize Helens enthusiastic behaviour whilst entering their new 'comfortless flat'? Perhaps.
Jo withdraws from her semi-whore, alcoholic mother instintally. Helens attempts of love and affection are non exsistant. It dosn't seem suprising when Helen abondans Jo for a younger man. Isolated and bare, Jo is left to fight for her self.
Jo seeks love where ever she may find it, when a black sailor boy asks her hand in marrage she cannot refuse.
Now pregnant and alone, Geoff a homeasexual art student is Jo's next victom.
Through this play Jo focuses on the quest to discover her true identity. perhaps not a typical mother daughter relationship, but a common one. An excellent book, I highly reccomend.
