Momentos from a trip on Titanic
The attention to detail in this set is teriffic, right down to folding documents in the places they were originally folded. Even water stains and rust marks are reproduced and are very convincing!
It seems to be all the bits and pieces that a passanger would have (First Class). They are from the archives of the Titanic Historical Society. My favourite bits are the menu, baggage stickers (which are reproduced as stickers, should you want to slap them on the side of your travel trunk next time you are on holiday!), and the plan of the ship (same as the one given to Father Browne).
For those of you interested it includes the following... Olympic/Titanic Brochure: room drawings and large cutaway drawing of ship. Deck Plan: as per Father Browne. Luggage Sickers: Diamond Wanted sticker & round D State Room sticker. Boarding Card: Sent to passengers with their tickets (only one known to have survived). Notes for 1st Class Passengers: Really fascinating little book explaining everything from the time of meals (different on eastward journey than westward), to the cost of a shave (1/- or 25 cents). Passenger List: 1st class passenger list given to passengers. Lunch Menu: 1st class lunch menu (April 14th). Dinner Menu: 1st class dinner menu (April 14). Postcards: Various postcards available on board. Music Booklet: Repetoire of the band. Marconigrams: Ice warning from Amerika. Sinking message sent to Baltic. Ismay's declaring the loss of Titanic to White Star Line. Landing Card: Custom card for entry to the states.
Run out of Titanic items to buy? Try this one.
Despite the glowing reports which have appeared elsewhere, I was disappointed by the content of this package. The items are mainly superb reproductions of the originals, but there are at least a dozen artefacts I could happily live without. There are much more interesting items of "Titanic" memorabilia which could have been included, such as the invitation to the launch of the vessel, but instead we have to make do with some very flimsy Marconigrams, a surfeit of "Titanic" postcards (7 in all), a baggage receipt and poorly reproduced dinner menu (although the lunch menu is of a very high standard). At least half the production cost must have been spent on the expensive packaging, but 50% of the content is a real let down. Buy it when you have everything else and have run out of things to spend your money on.
